Considerations before changing a SnapStream Server's Computer Name

Question:

What considerations should be made before changing a SnapStream Server's Windows computer name?
NOTE:  Renaming a SnapStream Encoder can be done without concern.

Answer:

If there are any Encoders that are configured to send IPTV streams to the SnapStream server, it may be necessary to update the destination of those IPTV streams on those encoders after the server's host name has changed.  The steps for doing this on a SnapStream Encoder are outlined below.

  • Sign into the SnapStream Encoder's WebUI > Streams (on the left under Settings).
  • Click the edit icon next to the first content stream listed.
  • Scroll down to the destination field and update it to reflect the new host name of the server.
  • Save the change.
  • Repeat these steps for each content stream listed in the encoder's WebUI.

If a SnapStream Encoder is configured to integrate with an IP tuner on the SnapStream server, that encoder is going to need to know how to get to that SnapStream Server's WebUI after the Server's hostname has been changed.  The steps for doing this are below.

  • Sign into the SnapStream Encoder's WebUI > Misc (on the left under Settings).
  • Update the SnapStream Server Hostname field to reflect the new name for the server.
  • Save the change.

Additional Notes:
