Question:
How to Transfer Video Files From an Old Volicon Observer Server to a New One?
Answer:
The following outlines the steps necessary to transfer the video data from an old server to a new one in a manner that will minimize or eliminate loss of data.
This procedure assumes that the old server is still capturing data.
- Before transfer can start, it is important that the new server does not contain any data in it's 'video' folder. (c:\video\{encoder}\). If there is any contents in the video folder, it will have to be deleted
- Plug the feeds into the new server and verify that the server is encoding the correct contents
- Go to the system services on the new server (services.msc) and stop the "observer encoder" service
- Delete all video files from the "Video" folders
- Go to the system services on the old server, stop and disable the "observer encoder" service
- On the new server, start the "observer encoder" service (This will create a break-point in the timeline)
- Go to the old server, and begin copying contents from the old server to the new server (using the old server console to manage the copying, to further minimize issues).
- Once the copying is complete go to the new server and re-index all of the video files.
- Verify from the web GUI that you can see old data (the data which was copied, and that it can be pulled up via the player)
