Creating a Debug Log With DebugView

DebugView is a powerful monitoring tool from Microsoft that allows you to capture and log all of the actions taking place within Window. DebugView is helpful with capturing events that would normally not get logged within the SnapStream logs.

There may come a time where Support requests DebugView to help troubleshoot an issue such as a hardware problem. Here's how to use DebugView to capture

DebugView can become very resource intensive over time. It's best to only run Debugview for the time period where you are troubleshooting an issue. Please monitor the system resources while the program is in use.

Creating DebugView Logs

  1. Download DebugView from the following link: http://download.snapstream.com.s3.amazonaws.com/support/Utilities/Dbgview.exe
  2. Shut down all non-essential Windows programs and processes.
  3. Run the DebugView executable as the Administrator.
  4. Select the Options menu and select Clock Time.
  5. Select the Capture menu and ensure that Capture Win32 options has been selected.
  6. Select the File menu and select Log To File
  7. Enter a folder path and name for the outputting log file in the Log File field.
    • If you are capturing logs over a longer period of time, select the Create New Log Every Day option.
  8. Recreate the issue that you are experiencing.
  9. Once done with capturing, close DebugView to exit out of the program.

Once you have collected the data that's needed, retrieve a copy of the log file from the directory specified earlier. You can now forward this log to the Support team for additional assistance.
