Unable to Connect to the SnapStream WebUI After Running Windows 10 Updates

Issue:

The Web interface of the SnapStream Encoder, Express, or Pro system becomes inaccessible after applying Windows Updates. Usually when this occurs, no one is able to access the login screen to log into the SnapStream software. When this occurs, it's typically the result of a recent Windows Feature Update being applied.

Microsoft Feature Updates typically makes major changes to the operating system. One of which that may occur is a refresh of IIS Express and its configuration. One symptom that the IIS configuration has been refresh is the absense of the following directory.

C:\Windows\System32\config\systemprofile\documents\IISExpress\config

Solution:

To restore the IIS configuration, perform the following steps.

  1. Navigate to the path below and copy all of the IIS configuration XML files.

    C:\Program Files (x86)\IIS Express\config\templates\PersonalWebServer

  2. Drop the IIS configuration XML files just copied into the two paths below.

    C:\Windows\System32\config\systemprofile\documents\IISExpress\config
    C:\Windows\Syswow64\config\systemprofile\documents\IISExpress\config

You will need to recreate these folder paths on the system if they no longer exist.

  3. Go to Windows Services (Start > Run: services.msc), and stop the SnapStream IIS Express Wrapper Service.

  4. Download and re-install IIS 10 Express (iisexpress_amd64_en-US.msi) on the system.

  5. Go to Windows Services (Start > Run: services.msc), and start the SnapStream IIS Express Wrapper Service.

  6. The SnapStream Web UI should be available once again.

Stopping the SnapStream IIS Express Wrapper Service before re-installing IIS Express should prevent you from having to restart the System, but if the WebUI still doesn't work, please reboot before trying again.
