How do you use the Import Users feature?

Question:

How do you use the Import Users feature to add or remove multiple user accounts in SnapStream?

Answer:

The Import Users feature provides a streamlined way to manage user accounts in bulk by using comma-separated values (CSV) files.  The required format for the comma-separated values (CSV) files varies depending on whether you are adding or removing users.

Adding Users

To add multiple users in SnapStream, follow these steps:

  • Create a CSV File:  Prepare a comma-separated values (CSV) file with the following headers:
    • Email:  The email address of each user.
    • Group:  The group each user should belong to.
Note:  The "Group" entries should match existing groups in your SnapStream Cloud instance.

  • Upload the CSV file:
    • Log in to your SnapStream System.
    • Navigate to Admin > Security > Import Users.
    • The "Action" should be set to "Add".
    • Upload your CSV file.  SnapStream will create user accounts based on the details in the file.

Removing Users

To remove multiple users, you'll need to modify the CSV file format:

  • Create a CSV File for Removal:
    • Use only the Email header.  Do not include the Group column.
    • For each row, list the email of the user you wish to remove.

Example:
Important Note:  Including a Group header/column in CSV files used for removing users will result in an error when uploading the file with the "Remove" action.

  • Upload the CSV file:
    • Log in to your SnapStream System.
    • Navigate to Admin > Security > Import Users.
    • Change the "Action" from "Add" to "Remove"
    • Upload your CSV file.  SnapStream will remove user accounts based on the details in the file.

Additional Notes:

Group will be based on entries from within your cloud instance.

When using this feature, ensure that you adjust the headers and columns in your CSV file according to whether you are adding or removing users in bulk.  Failing to do so will result in an upload error.
