User Permissions listed in SnapStream Security Groups

Question:

What exactly do all of these SnapStream user permissions do?

Answer:

Watch Permissions

  • Watch Live TV:  Access Live TV.
  • Watch Recorded Shows:  This governs whether the user will see the Library portion of the SnapStream WebUI.  This will give them access to watch and search through content that hasn't been restricted with SnapStream Video Folder Permissions.
  • Watch Recorded Shows in Full Quality:  This setting is specific to customers that have a SnapStream Proxy Node.  It determines whether the user will see an option to playback the original version of a recording instead of its compressed proxy version that uses less bandwidth.
  • Use the MultiViewer:  Play back more than one recording at a time using the SnapStream MultiViewer.

Edit/Create/Delete Permissions

  • Edit Recorded Shows
    • Change lock status between "Keep Until I Delete" and "Keep Until Space is Need".
    • Edit details (metadata) for recorded content and clips.
  • Delete Recorded Shows:  Delete recorded shows and clips.
  • Create Clips:  Create Clips
  • Create Recordings: Set up new recording jobs to record new content. The user can view the schedule for recordings and add to it, but can't delete or edit recording jobs on the schedule.
NOTE:  Users who have the Create Recordings permission but NOT the Edit and Delete  Recordings and Manage Conflicts permission will be able to create new recording jobs only at the lowest priority.  They will not have an option to resolve conflicts that will prevent the shows that they schedule from being recorded.  Recording jobs created by such users will be prioritized on a first-come, first-served basis.
  • Edit and Delete Recordings and Manage Conflicts:  Access to change settings and priorities for recording jobs on the recording schedule for the purposes of managing conflicts over what records and what doesn't when there are not enough tuners available to record everything at a given time.
  • Stop Recordings:  Access to stop in-progress recordings immediately.  This leaves the recording job in place, but makes a one time exception for the current airing that is recording at the moment.
  • Upload Media Items:  Access to upload external video content to the SnapStream Library.
  • Manage Public Playlists

NOTE: If a user does not have permission to use a feature, that feature will not appear in the interface when they log in.

Different versions of SnapStream Software may not have all of the permissions listed, may have slightly different names, or could be grouped differently.
