How to view and adjust the encoding settings (resolution/bitrate) used by a SnapStream Proxy Node in 9.3 and above

Question:

You may find yourself wanting to view and/or adjust the proxy encoding settings used by a SnapStream Proxy generation node.

Answer:

To view or change the encoding format profile used by your SnapStream Proxy generation node:

  • Sign into your SnapStream Server's WebUI, and go to
  • Admin (at the top of the page) > Recording (on the left under Settings)
  • The encoding profile used will be listed in the Proxy Generation Profile field.

To create a new proxy format profile (with different resolution or bitrate settings) to use for your Proxy Generation Node:

  • Sign into your SnapStream Server's WebUI, and go to
  • Admin (at the top of the page) > Format Profiles (on the left under Setttings).
  • Find the format profile named, "Default Proxy Profile" and click the Copy Profile button.
    https://support.snapstream.com/hc/article_attachments/360064982313/Default_Proxy_Profile.JPG
  • Give this new profile a name to identify it by, adjust the encoding settings to what you would prefer to use, and click the Save button.
https://support.snapstream.com/hc/article_attachments/360064982693/New_Proxy_Profile.JPGNOTE:  With Preserve Aspect Ratio set to ON, we will automatically calculate the necessary width to be used to maintain the proper aspect ratio.  Turning this off will allow you to specify both the height and the width.
  • You can now go back to Admin > Recording > Proxy Generation Profile, and set it to use this new one you just created.

Additional Notes:

There is currently no way to have the proxy generation node re-encode proxy copies of content that has already been generated.
