How to Create a Clip in SnapStream

Question:

How do you create a Clip in SnapStream?

Answer:

Creating a Clip will result in the creation of an entirely new video file that captures the moment that matters to you by following the instructions below.

  1. Start playing back a recording.
  2. Playback the recording to the point you would like your new clip to begin, and mark your clipping start point using the  icon (shortcut key is 'Z' or 'I').
  3. Then playback to the point you would like your new clip to end, and mark your clipping end point using the  icon (shortcut key is 'X' or 'O').
  4. (Optional) Preview your proposed clipping points, and make any relevant adjustments using the clipping controls below.
    • Clipping Start Point Controls
      •  Nudge Start Point Back One Second.
      • Nudge Start Point Back One Frame.
      • Nudge Start Point Forward One Frame.
      • Nudge Start Point Forward One Second.
    • Skip to Clip Start:  Jump playback to your  Clipping Start point.
    • Loop Clip:  Toggles the looping of playback between your proposed clip points.
    • End:  Toggles playback looping of the last few seconds before your proposed clip end point.
    • Bookmark: This will create a bookmark to these clip points of the recording.NOTE:  This will not create a new clipped file.  A bookmark is playback shortcut to the region of the recording that you are marking with your clip points.
    • Skip to Clip End:  Jump playback to your Clipping End point.
    • Cancel:  Clears away your Clipping points.
    • Clipping End Point Controls
      • Nudge End Point Back One Second.
      • Nudge End Point Back One Frame.
      • Nudge End Point Forward One Frame.
      • Nudge End Point Forward One Second.
  5. When everything looks just right, click the Scissors Icon to the right of the Web Player (shortcut key is 'C'). From here you can select from a number of options regarding what you want to do with your clip.NOTE: You can clip directly to twitter, Facebook, YouTube, or Slack too by clicking the relevant icons instead of the Scissors.
    • For Clip Only:  This just creates the clip and nothing else.
      • You can give your clip a unique name of your choosing by typing in the first box.
      • Add any tags to make the clip easier to find later.
      • Specify what SnapStream Video Folder you want the Clip to be saved to.
    • For Clip and Transform:  This will create a clip, and transcode it to a different quality profile for further manipulation.  You will see all of the same options as you did when creating a 'Clip Only', but will also see some other options described below to further manipulate the clip.
      • This control allows you to crop the video using an aspect ratio of your choosing. This is especially useful when you plan to use your clip to manually upload to another platform like Instagram where a 9:16 aspect ratio may work best.NOTE:  You can drag the cropping points in your preview to your liking.
      • Select any pre-configured Watermarks or Branding that you would like to apply to your clip.
      • Caption Burn In:  Specify whether you want to burn any Captions into your video.
NOTE:  Closed Captions (optional captions that can be turned on or off) will already be in your clip if they were available in the original recording.  Turning this option on will make these captions no longer optional since the images of those captions will be burned into the video itself.
      • Time Stamps:  Specify whether you want to burn Timestamps into the video.
NOTE:  Once these are burned in to the video, they can not be turned off.
      • Specify the File Format you want to Transcode the clip to H.264 (.MP4) or Audio Only (.MP3/.Wav)
      • Target Quality Profile:  We have a variety of profiles to use for transcoding to different resolutions and/or platforms like Instagram, LinkedIn, Mastadon, and Twitter.
NOTE:  Some platforms prefer that your content be cropped to a specific aspect ratio that your content may not already be in.
      • Folder:  This determines where this transcoded clip will be saved in SnapStream.
  6. Click the Clip button.

Additional Notes:

  • Clips can easily be found later by going to the SnapStream Library tab and clicking 'All Moments' or 'My Moments' on the left side of the page.
    • Content from the Library can be download by clicking the  icon.
  • Clips can also be found in the Moments tab of the recording the clip was made from.
    • The clip can be downloaded here by clicking the  icon.
