Issue:
You are noticing that your recent recordings from your Component encoder are displaying an "Out of Range" error similar to the image below. An Out of Range error is normally the result of a condition where the video source is submitting a video signal that is outside of the capabilities of the capture card.
Solution:
There are a variety of scenarios that can cause this error, but here are the most common causes.
Component Cables
If the encoder is being fed by component cables, then the cable connection may be at fault.
- Check the component cables to ensure that the component cables are completely connected from the video source to the SnapStream encoder.
- Ensure that all of the component cables are connected to the correct color pairs. For example, yellow to yellow, blue to blue, green to green, etc. The out of range message is often the result of the green and blue being mixed up.
- If all connections appear to be secure, try reseating each of the component cables.
Resolution
The capture cards are designed to capture specific resolutions. Resolutions that are outside of this range will result in the Out of Range error.
- The capture cards can capture 1080i, but 1080p is not supported. Check the resolution settings of your video source to ensure that it's not sending video in the 1080p resolution.
- If you are capturing from a cable box or a satellite receiver, then it may be necessary to restart that device to correct the Out of Range condition.
